Once Upon a Time You’ll Read a Great India Travel Book
Author Rick Clark with wife Fran Gallo
Once upon a time a college English instructor namedRickClark went to India with his wife to travel all the way around the country by train and visit both big tourist destinations and out-of-the-way villages and small towns. He took nearly a thousand carefully composed photos and kept a rigorous and vivid journal. The journey was both challenging and exhilarating. When they returned to the United States,Rickdiscovered that his camera had been malfunctioning and that almost none of his photos had been exposed. Once he’d managed to pick himself back up off the floor of the drugstore where he’d picked up his packages from Kodak, he went home and began leafing through his journal, which he found, quite surprisingly, more than redeemed his loss of the photos. The book contains a thousand striking photos in words, dozens of poignant stories, forty or so lined travel poems, and a satisfying smattering of beautiful prose poems, philosophical musings, and mysteries of the world. Then the publisher Pina Publishing asked if he had a manuscript he’d be interested in having published and, because the publisher had recently joined his wife for a yoga retreat in India and because she practices yoga and loves to travel,Rickpresented her with the manuscript ultimately titled Journey to the River: India Travels. Pina Publishing has produced a lovely book containing the wild adventures, profound insights, and memorable lyrics ofRickClark, and everyone was happy forever after.
